Dadswell Glass offer a comprehensive range of repair and restoration services. Each repair is tailored to the needs of the panel, mirror or lampshade and a quote will be provided depending on the level of work and materials required. We can remove panels from your home, temporarily board up and re install repaired panel.
Stained glass can be encased into double glazed units, making a glass unit of triple thickness. Alternatively, existing panels can be resized to fit into a double glazed unit. For an irregular shape a glazing size template would be required.
Commissions start with an informal discussion of your requirements and your thoughts on how the finished piece will look. From this initial discussion we can create a no obligation quote for you to consider. You are welcome to call into the shop Monday to Friday or by appointment over the weekend. Alternatively, we can visit you in your home by prior arrangement.
Once the quote has been agreed, a non refundable deposit of 30% is required to secure the commission and we can then confirm a deadline for completion (this can depend on how busy the studio is with commitments).
At this stage we can start to design and if required we will send you a drawing of the suggested design. Your input to the look and feel of the panel is important and we welcome your thoughts on the colours and textures of glass to be used. Once the final design has been agreed and the glass chosen the handmade bespoke building of your panel can begin. On completion you will be able either collect your commission from the shop directly, or we can install for an additional fee, if required the installation fee will be included in the original quote.
Copperfoiling is a technique for creating designs in glass using a copper foil tape rather than lead. Copper foil is attached around the edges of individual pieces of pre-cut glass that make a design. These foiled pieces glass are then soldered together with lead solder beads. This technique is a perfect way to make beautiful sun catchers, lampshades, mirrors, terrariums, boxes and decorations to enrich your home. This method is not suitable for building window panels as the end product does not have the same strength as traditional leaded panels and is not water tight.
